On Thursday 7 October we held a breakfast seminar on social
media for our YBP program.
We had a full house and attendees enjoyed time networking over
breakfast, followed by an informative and entertaining presentation
by speaker Paul Callaghan.
Paul is a freelance writer, game
developer and co-director of the Freeplay independent games
festival. He uses social media to develop and promote many aspects
of his work, including his own profile, events such as Freeplay,
and his freelance writing business. For more information about
Paul, visit: www.paulcallaghan.net
Paul spoke about his own experiences
using social media including Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, blogging
and the internet generally. He also spoke about how social media
can be used effectively and efficiently to help us reach and
interact with our target markets and develop our own profiles and
businesses, as well as the profiles of our organisations and
specific events and promotions.
Attendees came away with valuable
insights on social media and how it can be used in a professional
context. We also learned about the importance of establishing a
'voice' or brand, which helps build a consistent and focused
presence online. Paul also gave us an understanding of the
advantages and disadvantages of social media, and how best to
approach this growing professional resource.
We would like to thank Paul once again
for his informative presentation and for answering our questions
about social media and how we can best employ it. Thanks also to
all those who attended and for your positive feedback. We look
forward to seeing you at our next YBP event!
