The corridors of Cornwall Stodart have been looking decidedly
more bristly of late. On 1 November 2011, nine of our male staff
became the Hairy Corn, a team of men pledging their upper-lips to
the Movember campaign to raise funds and awareness for the two
biggest health issues men face - prostate cancer and
depression.
An annual drive that is 'changing the face of men's health',
Movember is responsible for the hordes of mustachioed men roaming
the streets and workplaces of Australia and around the world. On
Movember 1st each year, clean-shaven males say goodbye to their
razors, choosing instead to groom, trim and wax their way into the
world of Tom Selleck, Friedrich Nietzsche and Salvador Dali. For
the 30 days of Movember, these magnanimous men raise funds by
seeking out sponsorship for their 'mo' growing efforts, the
proceeds of which go towards supporting the Prostate Cancer
Foundation of Australia and beyondblue: the depression
initiative.
Since its humble beginnings in 2003 - right here in Melbourne,
Australia - Movember has evolved into a truly global initiative,
with over 1.1 million 'Mo Bros' and 'Mo Sistas' participating in
formal campaigns all over the world. In 2010 alone, over 130,000
Australia men got on board, raising $25 million for the cause.
After 30 days of hair-raising 'mo'-ments, the Hairy Corn is
pleased to announce their team raised $6,111 for the cause.
Commendable individual efforts include Jamie Bedelis, who raised
$1,739, and Ed Gurgiel, who raised $1,139.
Cornwall Stodart would like to commend the Hairy Corn for the
support they've shown in 'changing the face of men's health' - an
amazing effort by all involved.
