In conjunction with McLeod Rail, on Thursday 9 September 2010
Cornwall Stodart hosted a dinner for our infrastructure clients.
Thirty guests attended to share an evening of great food, company
and entertainment in the tranquil surrounds of Gardens House in the
Royal Botanic Gardens. Tony Arnel and Merv Hughes were our guest
speakers.
As many will know, Tony is the Chair of both the World Green
Building Council (WGBC) and the Green Building
Council of Australia (GBCA). He is also the
Victorian Building Commissioner and Plumbing Industry Commissioner.
He is a leader in the national and international sustainability
debate, advocating sustainable building as a means of reducing
greenhouse emissions while improving economic growth and creating
green jobs.
Tony spoke about climate change and urged us to work towards
securing the future of our planet. He discussed the aims of the
WGBC and the GBCA, as well as what green buildings can offer us in
terms of energy and resources consumption. His inspiring words
encouraged us to push the case for green buildings in future, and
confirmed why he is a leading figure in the sustainability debate.
We thank him for coming to speak with us about this important
topic.
Our second speaker was Merv Hughes, the Australian cricketing
legend. Known for his killer right arm, Merv is a big-hearted crowd
favourite who made a major contribution to Australian cricket. Born
in Euroa, Merv represented Australia between 1985 and 1994 in 53
Test matches, taking 212 wickets. He played 33 One Day
Internationals, taking 38 wickets. Of course, he will always be
remembered for his performance at the Test against the West Indies
at the WACA in the 1988-89 season, when he took a hat trick and
went on to take 8 for 87.
Merv held the audience captive as he shared tales of his
cricketing days. His words were sometimes serious, sometimes
humorous, and always inspiring. We thank him for entertaining us
and taking the time to share his stories.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank McLeod Rail
once again, and especially Managing Director Mary Thompson, for
joining with us to gather our guests and share a fantastic evening.
Our firm has known Mary since 2006. As Managing Director of McLeod
Rail, she has seen her organisation become the leading independent
rail maintenance company in the southern region. Mary and her team
provide quality services to a range of corporate and government
clients - services that are essential for the operation of our
railways. We congratulate Mary and her team for their many
successes since the company was first established in 1993, and
thank them for partnering with us to bring everyone together at
Gardens House.
Cornwall Stodart has many infrastructure clients and a dedicated
Transport & Logistics team that is committed to working with
operators across this dynamic and vital industry. The Australian
transport and logistics industry is central to our national
prosperity, and will only become more important in future.
Operators in this sector face many challenges, including a complex
regulatory regime and a highly competitive market. Cornwall Stodart
believes that we can best service our clients by knowing and
understanding each of them and their businesses, which is one of
the reasons why we were thrilled to have the chance to join McLeod
Rail and our infrastructure clients on the night.
Thanks again to everyone who attended and thanks especially to
our clients for their ongoing support and commitment. The night was
a huge success and we look forward to seeing everyone soon.
