Golden Gavel Competition - Yvette Zegenhagen
Last night, Yvette Zegenhagen
competed in the Golden Gavel Competition run by the Young Lawyers'
Section of the Law Institute of Victoria. Yvette was provided with
her topic - 'What not to wear on casual Friday' - and had just 24
hours to prepare her presentation.
Yvette had many laughs from the
audience as she spoke about the following:
- Being super competitive, lawyers always try to one up each
other in the fashion stakes on Fridays and end up dressing like
something out of star trek.
- The only way to make sure lawyers dress appropriately on casual
Fridays would be to regulate it (ie, introduce fashion
legislation).
- Offenders will have to stand trial for crimes against fashion
before a panel similar to the ones used by America's Next Top
Model.
- If found guilty, lawyers will have their practising
certificates and offending outfits ceremoniously burnt and be
forced to work as accountants.
- If regulation is not the way to go, the best option would be to
remove the 'Friday issue' altogether and just implement a four day
working week instead.
Points were awarded for humour,
cleverness and overall presentation skills. Yvette performed
brilliantly and, while she did not win the coveted award, she did
Cornwall Stodart proud.
Well done Yvette!
We would also like to thank Kate Harry,
Michelle McLean, Rena Solomonidis, Gail Marshall, Dean Katz and
Peter Apostolopoulos for attending and providing moral support.
