Ellie Schmideg, Seasonal Clerk, December 2009
I completed a seasonal clerkship at Cornwall Stodart in December 2009. From day one, Cornwall Stodart welcomed us warmly into the firm. They opened their doors to us and made us feel settled and part of the team.

We were introduced to all staff members, as well as being shown
the inner workings of the office. Everyone did their best to keep
us busy during the clerkship, and offered their continued support
and assistance.
I was given the opportunity to work on many interesting matters,
and gained an exposure to a wide range of clients. From attending
client meetings and counsel briefs, to drafting letters of advice
and analysing contracts, the work I did gave me a fantastic
opportunity to see life as a working lawyer. Despite being a
seasonal clerk, I was given responsibility and was trusted to
research and offer my opinion on important points of law. Cornwalls
encouraged 'hands on' learning, and gave us the chance to be part
of the action.
I did two rotations and received both my preferences - Employment
& Industrial Relations and Commercial Litigation. This gave me
the opportunity to experience two very different areas of law, as
well as to mix with - and learn from - many staff within the
Cornwalls team.
All the staff at Cornwalls contribute to the supportive, diverse
and welcoming culture. I am in awe of their wealth of knowledge and
feel very lucky to have spent a month at the firm.
