Lachlan Davies Currie, Seasonal Clerk, December 2009
If you are reading this, then chances are you are working your way through the 'joy' that is the seasonal application process - deciding where to apply and what to put in your covering letters. I can't tell you what to write, but I can tell you that if you want a clerkship experience like no other, then it is certainly worth your effort to apply to Cornwall Stodart.
Lachlan Davies Currie
During my time as a seasonal, two things set this firm apart:
the interesting and rewarding nature of the work, and the unique,
progressive and inclusive office culture.
With rotations in Commercial Litigation and Corporate &
Commercial, and working directly for partners, I was exposed to an
amazing variety of work, including research, drafting letters,
preparing company resolutions, taking court notes and drafting
advice. Some tasks were simple, some very challenging (drafting an
international distribution agreement!), but all were intellectually
satisfying.
Despite only being there a month, I genuinely felt like a member
of the CS family. I made many friends through the numerous
social functions, and received invaluable support from my coaching
and mentoring 'buddies'. But, for me, what typifies the CS culture
is that, unlike some firms, the question is not whether partners
and lawyers are approachable, it is whether you are - because the
people here actively went out of their way to provide me with work,
advice and assistance.
So if you are looking for challenging and exciting work in a
fantastic environment, make the effort to apply to Cornwall
Stodart.
