Rachel Hatton, Seasonal Clerk, December 2009
My experience at Cornwall Stodart exceeded any expectation I had when I arrived on my first day. It was immediately obvious that the firm actively sought to encourage and support their seasonal clerks. From the clear and concise training schedule, to the office tour and introduction to all members of the Cornwall Stodart team, I felt welcomed and equipped to take on my clerkship.

The quality of the work I received further supported the feeling
that I was part of the Cornwall Stodart 'team'. Substantial trust
was placed in me as a seasonal clerk, which was above what I had
expected. I was asked to draft emails and letters of advice to
clients that, although later reviewed and edited, reached those
conclusions I had incorporated. I drafted an affidavit of discovery
and, considering the ramifications if such a document were
incorrect, I was stunned that I was asked to perform such a task. I
also regularly had the opportunity to serve, file and deliver
documents to various parties.
Social activities were wide and varying. The 2009 Christmas
Party was a calendar highlight. The evening involved much laughter
and dancing, and also allowed me to get to know the people who are
Cornwall Stodart. The monthly morning tea further enhanced their
team culture, and I was able to catch up with people I had worked
for throughout my rotations.
As a seasonal clerk I was given the support and trust I needed
to learn important professional and life skills.
