Traineeships at Cornwall Stodart
Following the commencement of the Legal Profession
(Admission) Rules 2008 in July 2008, Cornwall Stodart made an
ongoing commitment to offer Supervised Workplace Training
(SWT) at a time when many other law firms decided
it was 'all too hard'. We believe the high quality program provided
by us nurtures our trainees to develop to their full potential,
both professionally and personally.
Rotations and Training
Your training will incorporate the compulsory areas, skills and
values required as part of the Traineeship Competency Standards. In
line with the Traineeship Rules, competencies requiring training by
an accredited PLT provider, such as Ethics and Professional
Responsibility, will be provided externally as part of our
program.
Your traineeship will see you rotate through all of our practice
groups and be exposed to all areas of the firm. The program is
designed to ensure that you:
Induction Program
As a graduate or trainee, you will be provided with an extensive
induction program over your first few weeks with the firm.
The induction program will provide you with introductions to your
colleagues, our systems and procedures, our library and research
facilities, and our document database and precedents. You will also
be provided with an introductory session on each of the practice
groups and areas of expertise - ie the type of work we do, who our
clients are and other key information.
By no means does your induction signify the end of your
introduction into Cornwall Stodart. We have dedicated people on
hand to answer your questions, assist you and make you feel
comfortable.
In addition, you will participate in various training sessions
throughout your traineeship as required. Before the commencement of
each new rotation, you will receive practice-group specific
training to assist you with settling in effectively.
Ongoing Learning
Apart from on-the-job learning, we also have a comprehensive
Leadership and Development Program to help all staff reach their
full potential. You will also be encouraged to attend weekly legal
professional development seminars as part of the Enhancing Success
Program (ESP). These are in-house seminars
supervised by senior associates and partners, as well as external
presenters, on various areas of law or legislative change.
As part of your traineeship program you will attend monthly
feedback sessions with the Information and Development Manager, the
Human Resources Manager and fellow trainees. These sessions allow
you to get a 'taste' of upcoming rotations, share your experiences
with colleagues and build on your development in a proactive and
structured forum.
