Sam practises in complex litigation and dispute resolution. He prides himself on being able to master any legal issue and develop a strategic plan to maximise outcomes for clients, whether that be through adversarial litigation or through a negotiated resolution.

Sam has a comprehensive knowledge of the law and has been involved in high-stakes litigation in superior courts throughout the country, including the New South Wales Supreme Court, the Victorian Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Federal Court of Australia and the High Court.

Furthermore, his exceptional communication skills allow him to articulate complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner, ensuring his clients are well informed and empowered throughout the dispute resolution process. He is known for his empathetic approach, actively listening to his clients’ concerns, and providing them with personalised legal advice tailored to their specific needs.

Sam was formerly the Research Associate to Justice Jackson at the Federal Court of Australia, and gained an invaluable perspective as to how Courts operate from within.

Sam also holds a Teaching Fellowship at the University of New South Wales, where he teaches Administrative Law.

Experience

Sam’s recent experience includes:

  • Advising a litigation funder on the prospects of large construction dispute involving claims of over $100 million being run in the NSW Supreme Court, identifying defects in various aspects of the proceedings, and following an 8-week hearing, obtaining judgment consistent with that advice;
  • Assisting in the conduct of high-profile defamation proceedings in the Federal Court;
  • Representing individuals impacted by Australia’s sanctions regime, including by liaising with the Department of Home Affairs and Trade, and the relevant bureaucrats and Ministers with responsibility for administering the relevant Acts; and
  • Acting for an entrepreneur in relation to a dispute over the proceeds of trust assets worth over $2 million, involving numerous inter-related actions in the Federal Court, Supreme Court of New South Wales, and the High Court.
