Chris Kintis is a highly accomplished dispute strategist, commercial and litigation lawyer who has supported clients for over 25 years in complex commercial disputes and regulatory investigations and prosecutions.

Chris’s strength lies in quickly identifying key issues and implementing an appropriate strategy to achieve business, financial and reputational outcomes for clients involved in commercial disputes.

Successfully resolving matters without proceeding to a contested trial is a key focus of Chris’s practice. He draws on his many years of alternative dispute resolution experience to effectively manage disputes towards early resolution.

Chris has particular experience acting for company directors. He has regularly advised directors on the subject of civil and criminal prosecution and regulatory investigation. He has acted for clients in proceedings brought by ASIC, the Commonwealth DPP, the Australian Taxation Office and investigations by the ICAC.

He also has significant experience in building and construction disputes, professional negligence, financial services disputes, contractual disputes, insurance, property disputes and consumer law.

Experience

Chris’s recent experience includes:

  • representing a former Chief Executive Officer of a public company in the defence of criminal proceedings alleging insider trading;
  • acting for a commercial property developer in complex proceedings against a financier involving claims of conspiracy and misuse of confidential information;
  • representing the directors of a medical practice in professional negligence proceedings arising out of the provision of negligent tax advice;
  • representing a publishing business in connection with a large-scale employee fraud, including assisting the business with investigations to identify and secure the proceeds of the fraud;
  • acting for an industry expert in proceedings alleging infringement of the expert’s copyright in her doctoral thesis;
  • acting for a hotel owner in connection with a lease dispute, including obtaining urgent injunctive relief to prevent the termination of the lease;
  • acting for the owners of a vineyard in negligence proceedings relating to the destruction of the vineyard by reason of fire escaping from an adjoining rural property;
  • acting for taxpayers in the Federal Court of Australia in an appeal from a decision of the Australian Taxation Office not to remit penalty interest;
  • defending a taxpayer in connection with criminal proceedings commenced by the Australian Taxation Office concerning the alleged failure to lodge income tax returns;
  • representing an agribusiness lender in the Federal Court of Australia in connection with claims made under the PPSA and involving injunctive relief;
  • defending a multi-million dollar contractual damages claim against a commercial finance broker; and
  • acting for the liquidators of an insolvent land bank company in connection with multi-million dollar damages against its directors and advisors of alleging non-compliance with fundraising provisions under the Corporations Act.
